Child of Prague

At the top of my stairs is the Child of Prague statue. This is the family statue and has been with us since the 1960s. As a child, the statue sat on the top of Mom and Dad's wardrobe, looking at us naughty children getting up to no good in our parent's room. One day Nick or I decided we had to get something out of the top of the wardrobe and being only 6 or 7 and very small, we had to physically climb the wardrobe. I attempted the climb but was no good, however Nick was determined to get to the top of the wardrobe. Just as he got to the top of the wardrobe, the wardrobe toppled and Nick and the child of prague fell off the wardrobe. The statue gave Nick a great wallop on the head for his troubles. Of course, we were discovered and given a hiding for being up to no good.
At the time, I was worried when the statue fell and hurt Nicky, as I got older it became a funny story I told and now it gives me comfort that although Nick is not around, my memories of him and the Child of Prague will remain forever.
